Hello.
Are you anxious about the idea of looking for a therapist?
Most people are! It’s understandable.
Going and telling someone you don’t know, about your weaknesses and foibles seems a strange idea, but you’d be surprised how many people find having someone they don’t know, someone outside their family or friendship circles, to be just the right place to start talking about their questions about life, relationships, anxieties, what depresses them and what events, feelings and phobias have blocked their life progress.
I am an experienced (30 years in practice) BACP Senior Accredited therapist & Senior Accredited Supervisor, working with individuals, couples, and teenagers & children.
I am a Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am committed to best practice procedures. You can read about these on http://www.bacp.co.uk/
I provide Confidential Counselling in a relaxed setting and use a variety of theories and techniques to make a programme to suit your concerns and issues. TA (transactional analysis & Ego-State Therapy to help you understand relationships from your past & can learn to interact in healthier more satisfying ways), CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy- getting your thinking and actions working in a healthier way) , Gestalt (exploring & expressing your feelings).
I am also an EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant for Adults, Adolescents and Children. I use EMDR with most clients to deal with distressing issues such as bullying, negative self-talk, verbal, physical or sexual abuse, eating disorders, car accidents, fear of flying, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorders- highly anxious thinkers and compulsive doers), panic attacks, phobias, and much more. EMDR Trauma therapy
EMDR is a well respected & effective psychological treatment therapy that was developed by an American clinical psychologist, Dr Francine Shapiro, in the 1980s. Since then a wealth of research has been conducted demonstrating its benefits in treating psychological trauma arising from experiences as diverse as war related experiences, bullying, childhood sexual and/or physical abuse or neglect, natural disaster, assault, birthing or surgical trauma, road traffic accidents, workplace accidents and attachment issues from childhood. Since its original development, EMDR is also increasingly used to help individuals with other issues (OCD, panic attacks, phobias, pain relief, and performance anxiety). EMDR has been found to be of benefit to children as well as adults. As it heals their distress it seems to open up their brains to learn and retain more information and catch them up with much lost learning from school and relationships.
I am a BACP Senior Accredited Supervisor (Individuals) (seeing EMDR Therapists only due to time limitations) and Supervise Counsellors in their psychotherapy work as part of our on-going professional approach. I am an EMDR Accredited Consultant and able to Supervise other EMDR therapists.
